Great Stoutbones play a vital role in crafting many weapons and armor in Monster Hunter Wilds. For players who can really get into the combat, bone weapons are a fantastic option, especially if you prefer a more aggressive style of play.

While you’re making your way through the main storyline of MH Wilds, you’ll soon realize you need some top-notch materials. The good news? Great Stoutbones are fairly easy to find. Check out these spots to grab some for your crafting adventures.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Great Stoutbone Location

Great Stoutbones are a material available in High Rank, and at this point, you mainly get them as rewards for completing these quests. Here are the quests listed below:

Out of the three monsters, the Blangonga is arguably the easiest to tackle. You can spot them in the Iceshard Cliffs, usually alongside the smaller Blangos. If you’re after Great Stoutbones, farming Blangongas is the way to go — their attack style is much more straightforward than Ajarakan’s, and even though they’re quicker than Doshagumas, they don’t hit nearly as hard.

Keep an eye out for a Frenzied version of any of these three monsters and take them out first. They’re much more aggressive than the regular ones, but they also have less health, making them easier to defeat.

What Are Great Stoutbones Used For?

Like I said, Great Stoutbones are often used to make Tier 4 versions of the Bone Tree weapons and the armor sets for the three monsters mentioned earlier. These weapons include:

Bone weapons generally have higher raw Attack values than metal weapons, but they come with a downside: they’re not as sharp. This means players will need to sharpen them more frequently, and staying at those high sharpness levels like white or purple won’t last long.

Also, a lot of Bone weapons come with a negative Affinity, which means you might not deal as much damage with your hits. Since critical hits depend on your Affinity, if you want those Bone weapons to land crits, you’ll want to equip skills like Critical Eye and Weakness Exploit to boost your chances.
